Golf data coverage for commentators
Definitions used on this page
- Field is the list of players entered in a tournament. In golf, the field is the squad: without it, there is nothing to prepare.
- Leaderboard is the live ranking by total score relative to par, with position, holes completed ("thru") and today's score.
- Round-by-round is each player's score per round (for example 69-71-68). It is what golf commentators read out when they introduce a player.
- Hole-by-hole is the score on each hole as it is played. It drives birdie, eagle and bogey alerts.
- Covered is a tour where the field arrives and the leaderboard returns players in recently completed tournaments. Full definition.
The measurement
For each tour we take the two most recently completed tournaments of the current season and ask the leaderboard for the players. If at least one returns a field, the tour is covered. Missing round-by-round scores are recorded as a note, because the preparation still works without them, only thinner. The schedule is checked against two independent sources, so a tour does not disappear because one source has a bad day.
In the measurement of 2 October 2026, all three tours met the bar, and two of them carried notes about incomplete data in one of the two sampled tournaments. The current status and notes for each tour are in the live table at /coverage/golf.
How to read the notes
"1 of 2 sampled tournaments had round-by-round scores". In one of the two tournaments we checked, the leaderboard had totals and positions but not the per-round breakdown. For your preparation, that means the player card can show where a player finished, but not always the three or four round scores that tell the story of a week.
"1 of 2 sampled tournaments returned a field". One recent event came back without players. The tour is still covered, because the other did, but you should open the broadcast early in the week and check that the field is there before you build your preparation on it.
We publish these notes because a golf commentator plans around them. A tour that is covered with a known gap is more useful information than a green tick.
What you get when a tour is covered
Before the tournament
- The field, sortable by position, name or nation. Positions such as "T12" are sorted as ties, not as text.
- Your players: star the players you plan to follow, and they are pinned at the top and gathered in their own panel, showing the hole they are on, the par of the next hole, or their tee time.
- Private notes per player that follow the player to the next tournament.
During play
- The live leaderboard.
- An event feed with eagles, birdies, bogeys, completed rounds, lead changes, big moves up and down, and players crossing the cut line, with a filter for "Mine".
- A one-line summary of the last 60 minutes: how many eagles, birdies and lead changes.
One honest limit. The event feed depends on hole-by-hole data, and not every tour and tournament sends it. When it is missing, the feed says "This tour does not send hole-by-hole" instead of staying silent, and the leaderboard still updates.
Which tours are not covered
Only the three tours above are measured today. Other tours, such as the Korn Ferry Tour, the LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour, are not on the list, and we do not describe them as covered. If you commentate one of them, tell us: a request is how a tour gets into the measurement.
How LiveCast does it
The golf demo is a recording of a real final round, The Masters 2025, so you can follow the leaderboard, your starred players and the event feed exactly as they behaved live. A free account gives access to the recorded demo broadcasts. For the full workflow, see golf commentary prep and golf in LiveCast.
FAQ
Does LiveCast cover the PGA Tour?
The PGA Tour is one of the three tours in the weekly measurement. Its current status, any notes about missing round-by-round data, and the measurement date are in the live table at /coverage/golf.
Does LiveCast cover the DP World Tour and LIV Golf?
Both are in the weekly measurement alongside the PGA Tour. Check the live table for the current status and notes. If a note says a sampled tournament returned no field, open your broadcast early in the week and check the field before you rely on it.
Why don't I get birdie alerts in some tournaments?
Alerts need hole-by-hole scoring. Where the source does not send it, the event feed tells you so, and the leaderboard keeps updating.
How often is golf coverage re-checked?
Weekly. A result older than 14 days is shown as "not measured", so the table never carries a stale yes.
Can I get other tours, such as the LPGA Tour?
Not today. Only the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf are measured. Tell us which tour you commentate, because requests decide what is added to the measurement next.
